Don’t let thinning lashes give your age away!

Did you know that lashes naturally thin with age? By age 60, lashes are 50% of what they were in your 20’s - oh my!  Fear not, because we have the cure, and it’s on super sale – Latisse makes lashes longer, thicker and darker.

Now up to 58% off - $69/kit (normally $120)*, or 2 for $99 (that's less than normal cost for ONE kit). Today through September 30 – this deal is limited, so act fast, friends!

Yikes! Did a little too much fun in the sun this summer leave you with age spots and wrinkles?

We’ve got the cure:  There are two great options for lightening skin tone and eradicating brown spots and small wrinkles: topical creams and lasers.

Creams: Topical retinoids (Retin-A) cream, like the powerful combination found in our own Lighten Up! suppresses the production of pigment and promotes skin cell turnover, which will visibly decrease wrinkles.  The cream takes a full skin growth cycle for you to see the full results, approximately 3 months. Continuing a Retin-A cream on a daily basis is a great daily maintenance for almost all skin types. Prices range from $70 - $200.

Lasers:  The Fraxel Restore laser zaps away brown spots and boosts production of collagen and elastin (that means a reduction in wrinkles to you!). You’ll need 3 – 4 treatments, about a month apart.  Expect a week to 10 days of redness, which at worst may look like a mild sunburn. Fraxel is especially effective at boosting collagen production which continues for many months after your last treatment. Patient Michelle: "My skin looks so much better and people keep saying I look younger!"

The Deal: 50% off a series of 3 Fraxel laser treatments, normally $3,000, now 50% off $1500. Through September 30th, 2011.

Dr. Cassileth's own skin lightening cream Lighten Up!, normally $75, now $60 (through September 30th, 2011).

Q: Do breast implants need to be changed every 10 years?

A: Answer: No, they do not!

Implants do not need to be replaced routinely after 10 years. Implants are replaced if there is a problem or if the patient decides they want to change their breast size.

So where does the often mentioned ten year figure come from? Older implants, especially those placed prior to 1992, are more likely than not to be ruptured. Currently, however, I only recommend having the implants checked for rupture if they look or feel different than usual, such as a new capsular contracture.

Capsular contracture occurs when the scar tissue around the implant gets firmer, which makes the implant feel hard and rise in the chest. This condition can even be painful, if severe. All new implants, whether silicone or saline, are under warranty. The warranty covers the cost of the new implant, if ruptured, whenever it may rupture. If the implant ruptures in less than ten years, the warranty also covers part or all of the cost of the surgery. So if you are worried that your implants are leaking and you have had them close to the ten year limit, it's probably a good idea to get them checked.

FDA guidelines regarding the new silicone implants inform patients to undergo MRI to check for silicone leak three years after the implants are placed. However, I only require MRI to check for implant leaks if there are changes in the breast implant, as in capsular contracture.
