Welcome ! ![]() Dr. Malone's Mission Trip
Dr. Malone recently visited Suriname, South America again on a mission trip. This was his third trip there to share his faith and to help the Aukan people with their dental needs. Suriname is located between French Guiana to the east and Guyana to the west. The southern border is shared with Brazil and the northern border is the Atlantic coast. There are no highways or roads in the interior of Suriname. Air flight into Suriname leads you to a bumpy landing on a dirt air strip. Ground transportation is strictly by foot or handmade water craft.
The Aukan people are a tribe of former African descendants who were shipped there as slaves about 400 years ago to work on English colonial plantations. The majority of them have now established communities along the rivers in eastern Suriname.
On the last two expeditions there, Dr. Malone and his team spent time teaching the Aukan people to take care of their dental needs and ministering to them about Jesus. The photo you see above is one of the Aukan tribe leaders extracting a tooth. This has been very helpful there since dentists may only visit this area every year or two. The closest city in which to travel for dental treatment is 3 days away by hand-made boat. This keeps the people there from suffering for long periods without treatment. They are so thankful to now have the ability to take care of tooth problems when they arise.
