Did you know? According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, more than 50% of children will be affected by tooth decay by the age of 5. The three most important behaviors in early childhood caries prevention are: Regular dental visits, consistent oral hygiene with exposure to fluoride and a diet low in fermentable carbohydrates. Studies have shown that children without regular dental care experience higher rates of early childhood caries than children who receive regular oral health care.
In this issue: What are Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are a great way to protect your child's permanent teeth from cavities. Dental sealants are a clear and protective coating that is applied to the biting surfaces of the back teeth. The sealant protects the tooth from getting a cavity by shielding against bacteria and plaque. Sealants are most commonly placed on children's permanent back teeth because they are more prone to cavities. Don’t Forget your Mouthguard: Prevent Injuries in Youth
Using any mouthguard for protection is step in the right direction. However, “off the shelf” mouthguards may be uncomfortable making it harder to breath easily and therefore being discarded or used less frequently. The dentist can custom build a mouthguard, fitted to your teeth and gums, providing maximum comfort and extra protection. Call us to learn more about a custom-made sports mouthguard for your child. Healthy Kids Teeth With the 2-2-2 Rule!!
Help keep your child's teeth healthy by using the 2-2-2 rule: visit your dentist 2 times a year, brush and floss 2 times a day for 2 whole minutes!!
The Mountain Rotary Clubs proudly sponsor our annual mountain communities dental screening program at our local elementary schools. Dr. Bialecki has planned and facilitated these screenings for many years. We are so thankful that many local Rotarians, Dentists, Hygienists, Dental Assistants and support staff graciously volunteer their time to this great cause! It is with this program that we can contribute our knowledge to children with regards to dental health, early detection of any oral problems, advise them on proper oral care and give them the tools to have a healthy happy dental life!
Have a great day! Arrowhead Dental Arts
