Welcome !

Foothills Pediatric Dentistry hopes that your Mother's Day was a truly special one.  Chances are this will be an especially busy month for you.  With Mother's Day behind us, we look forward to Memorial Day and school wrapping up.  While you've surely had your children on a morning routine of brushing their teeth before heading off to school, it's more important than ever to keep that routine going - especially since there's sure to be more opportunities for them to be snacking throughout the day.

Kids are faced with a wide array of food choices -- from fresh produce to sugar-laden processed convenience meals and snack foods. What children eat and when they eat it may affect not only their general health, but also their oral health. It's clear that “junk” foods and drinks gradually have replaced nutritious beverages and foods for many people. For example, the average teenage boy in the U.S. consumes 81 gallons of soft drinks each year! Alarmingly, when sugar is consumed over and over again in large, often hidden amounts, the harmful effect on teeth can be dramatic. Sugar on teeth provides food for bacteria, which produce acid. The acid in turn can eat away the enamel on teeth.

EXCITING NEWS!
We were so excited to host a special office tour for Brownie Troop #20113 on April 19th. It was a very fun time for them and us, as we discussed what to expect during their dental visit, proper brushing techniques and a look at the x-ray machines and treatment rooms. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
This month's employee spotlight is shining on Terri Williams.  Terri has been part of our team since January 2007.  She and her husband Jim moved here from Sarasota, Florida.  They have three grown sons who have now moved to Tennessee.  For anyone who has met Terri, you know that she loves animals and has a variety of them.  In their off time, Terri and Jim work on their property and enjoy riding horses, and travel any chance they get.

CONGRATULATIONS!
Our contest for April was to register to win passes to the Knoxville Zoo.  Although we had a lot of entries, we could only choose one winner.  That lucky winner was Bailey.  This month's contest is to guess the number of flowers we've got hanging in the office.

In June, we welcome summer, with our contest to guess the number of sunglasses and a special BEACH DAY planned for June 16th!

Have a great day!
