The flu is a contagious respiratory illness that is caused by the influenza virus. The severity of the illness can range from mild to severe, depending on the infected individual.  The best way to prevent the seasonal flu is to get vaccinated every year.

WHAT IS THE
SEASONAL FLU SHOT?

The flu shot lowers your chances of getting the seasonal flu. Even if you received a flu shot in previous years, it is important to get the flu shot each year because it is updated to provide protection against the most common flu viruses of the season. Due to low efficacy the nasal spray vaccine is again not recommended this year.

PEAK FLU
SEASON

The peak flu season is typically December-February. The CDC recommends vaccination with the injectable flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older before the end of October, if possible. It can take two weeks for the vaccine to provide protection from the flu and even longer for young infants who may require two doses in their first year of vaccination.
