On November 21st, 2015, Collins Dental hosted their third annual Smiles From The Heart Free Dentistry Event. With the help of our volunteers, we were able to provide $24,000 of much needed treatment to over 75 deserving community members! Thank you so much for your help spreading the word to your friends and family. We also owe a debt of gratitude to our donors at Kerr Dental, Patterson Dental, Henry Schein Dental, and Colgate. We could not have done it without help from Dr. Pablo Martinez and his talented team at Orlando Oral & Facial Surgery. It was a blessing to meet so many wonderful people, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have served you! 2015: AT A GLANCE 

This year, like each year since our beginning in 2001, we were reminded of how fortunate we are to be a part of this community. We are continuously grateful for the participation of our patients in our events and promotions, for the shout-outs on social media (you have no idea how happy we are to see these!), and for confidence you place in us with the referrals of your friends and family members.

With your help, as of December 1st, we had already welcomed over 900 new patients into our Collins Dental family for the year. It's been an honor to get to know each and every one, and we owe you for the opportunity. 

Some of our most memorable 2015 happenings, in sequential order:

1. Arguably one of the most ground-breaking events of the year: Dr. Collins grew a beard. And he's keeping it indefinitely! Our Facebook fans voted, and the beard stays :)

2. We celebrated Children's Dental Health Month in February with a coloring contest, and encouraged kids to keep their mouths healthy by providing free fluoride treatments to every child for the entire month. We loved having artwork in our hallways, and each artist was entered into a contest for a Lakeshore Learning Store gift certificate! We love to visit schools to share with children about the importance of dental health and starting a lifetime of healthy habits, so let us know if you would like us to contact your child's school!

3. We hosted our first ever April Showers Selfie Month. Thanks so much for taking the time to Facebook and Tweet your in-office selfies with us! We loved seeing them :)

4. We continued the tradition of honoring mothers with our "Dear Mom" Mother's Day Writing Contest. We received many letters, and were moved by each and every one. Picking the top three was no easy task, but nominees Jennifer, Dana and Aracelis all received flower arrangements from Winter Springs Florist! The letters were so beautiful, however, that we couldn't help but make sure that each deserving mother received a copy of her submission in the mail. We are already looking forward to reading next years letters!

5. Great fathers deserve some love, too, so after an overwhelming response to our Mother's Day Contest in May, we set out to honor dads in June. Our youngest patients decorated neckties and answered the question, "What is your favorite thing to do with your dad?" The answers were heartwarming, and we entered each artist in a raffle to win a gift certificate to Sonny's BBQ!

6. Some of the best fun we had all year was seeing all the submissions for our Look-Alike Contest in July and August! With the addition of his beard, Dr. Collins was starting to get compared to Blake Shelton on a regular basis. That sparked our curiosity, and we asked you to show us who your dopplegangers were. You all were great sports, and some of you had quite a sense of humor about your entries, including our contest winner, Peyton! The vote was opened to our Facebook fans, and Peyton won our stocked Tommy Bahama Beach Buggy by a landslide :)

7. This fall, we became sponsors for Oviedo High School and Winter Springs High School, and have had so much fun watching football games and meeting many of the talented students at each school! Go Bears and Lions! It's an honor to support you all!

8. Have you seen us around town lately?  We had a great time at the Hometown Harvest in Winter Springs, Great Day in the Country in Oviedo, and at the Employer Sponsored Health Fairs at Sears and Axium Healthcare. It's been great meeting new patients and greeting old friends!  As a small, local business, we are thankful to support and encourage our community.

9. We had a fantastic time celebrating with our patients and their families at our 2015 Patient Appreciation BBQ in October. Our own very talented patient David DeQuasie and his band, Mud Rooster, entertained the crowd, we all enjoyed food from Backwoods Boys BBQ, and we raffled off prizes like gift certificates to Hand & Stone and MoJo Wellness Therapies! Thanks for joining us, everyone!

10. In November, we honored veterans, once again, by donating 10% of our collections on Veterans Day to the Wounded Warrior Project. We hope to continue this tradition each year, and appreciate those of you that made a point to schedule your outstanding treatment plans for that day!

11. Smiles From The Heart is one of our most memorable days each year, and this year was no did not disappoint. You all worked hard to spread the word to your friends and family and, for that, we are so grateful. The holiday season is in full swing, with all the wonderful activities that our community has to offer!  It is also time to reflect on our families – what was memorable about 2015 for you? And what are you looking forward to in 2016?  How are you planning on making new memories with your family and friends?  We are so grateful to have such an incredible group of team members, patients, colleagues, and a network of professionals that we have the great pleasure of working with on a consistent basis.  And now, in this Christmas season, we cannot help but express how very blessed and thankful we are.  Thank you for choosing Collins Dental as your dental care provider!  Wishing you and your family a very joyous Christmas season and Happy New Year!

DECEMBER TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: 

You may have met Michelle on a visit to the practice! Michelle was raised in Hawaii. She spent 9 years in the Navy, where she received most of her Dental training, in San Diego, CA. She completed dental assisting school as well as dental laboratory training, and has been working in the dental field since 1986. She moved to Florida in 2009. She has an amazing daughter and son-in-law who still reside in Hawaii. This month, Michelle took the time to tell us a little more about herself.
