Remember the Basics When it Comes to Oral Hygiene

Dentistry has evolved into a decidedly advanced science, with many advances in preventative and clinical care. But oral health care comes down to each person dedicating a few minutes each day to some basic yet important habits. SmileMore encourages you to follow these tips, which will make your mouth healthy, and your visits to the dentist easy and painless.

  • Brush morning and night: Plaque and mouth bacteria are most active at night when saliva nearly stops flowing and your mouth gets dry. Brush before bed to clean off your teeth, and brush again in the morning to clean up the overnight bacterial activity. If you brush only twice a day, these two times will give you the most bang for your buck.
  • Eat “cleanser” foods after meals: Let’s face it. You should brush your teeth after each meal. But if you have neither the time nor the means, have an apple, a handful of popcorn or a raw carrot. This helps scrub out food particles and neutralize acids and sugars that can damage your teeth.
  • Don’t forget your tongue: You can brush till the cows come home and it still won’t vanquish bad breath (if you have it) unless you scrape your tongue. You can use the back of a spoon or the scraper on your toothbrush, but the best tool is the tongue scraper to rid the bacteria responsible for bad breath.  Ask us for one the next time you're in.

To prevent gum disease and other oral health problems, schedule regular dental cleanings and exams. Call us today to schedule an appointment, at 860-646-1535, or click here to visit our website and learn more about our services.

Smile-More Office Happenings - November

November is a busy month of celebrations in the office.  First Happy Birthdays to our hygienists Carol and Eden.   Also, a big Happy Birthday to the man himself, Dr Erickson, whose day falls on Thanksgiving this year.  We also are celebrating our office manager, Alison's 30th year "ruling the roost" around here.  Thanks Alison for all your efforts and positive attitude you bring to the office every day.

We recently attended a great continuing education course focusing on the positive you can bring to your life everyday, at work and at home.  Great reminder to keep a smile on you face and a kind word on your lips.

Wishing you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving Day.

YOU COULD ACTUALLY SAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS BY USING YOUR DENTAL BENEFITS BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR!

Another year is coming to an end and we wanted to remind you to make sure you take advantage of any unused insurance benefits you may have remaining, since most companies do not allow you to carry these over to the next year.  You can apply unused HSA dollars to your co-pay amounts as well.

If you are someone without insurance, no worries! We have a program called Carecredit. This is a healthcare credit card with applications available in the office, and it allows you to span out payments without finance charges for 6-12 months. It also can be used on any out of pocket expenses after your benefits.

The end of the year is fast approaching! We would like to schedule your appointment to maximize your insurance benefits. Call us at 860-646-1535!!
