Summer is Something to Smile About

Summer is in full swing, but that doesn’t mean oral hygiene should take a vacation! Make sure your kids -- and you -- keep your teeth healthy this summer and throughout the year. Smile More dentist has some tips to make sure you and your children keep smiling more:

  • Avoid sugary foods regardless of the season: Kids’ daily routines can be disrupted when summer rolls around. The change in routine can also mean a change in their eating habits, which means unhealthy snacks and sugary foods -- among the root causes of cavities -- can creep into their summer diet.
  • Eat healthy snacks: Make sure you stock the pantry and fridge with healthy snacks such as nuts, oatmeal and fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Hydration: Staying hydrated in summer heat is very important, so drinking plenty of water is critical. But if you do indulge in a sugary drink, make sure you ingest some water soon after. It helps wash away sugar in your mouth, and helps prevent cavities from forming.
  • Keep Brushing: Just because the schedule is different in the summer doesn’t mean there isn’t time to to brush teeth twice a day.
  • Time for a new toothbrush? Toothbrushes should be replaced every three months, so the beginning of the month is a great time to mark a 12-week cycle. Before they know it, it’ll be back to school...

Smile-More Office Happenings-July

June & July have been busy months for some of us to take vacations.  Carol enjoyed a family vacation in upstate  New York.  Denise A had some fun in the sun at a friend's cottage on the Connecticut shoreline.  Donna went to the Maine coast with family and friends.  Denise V sent time in Virginia with family.  Alison took some much needed R&R at home after her daughter's wedding.  Mary Ann traveled to Bermuda with her husband for a relaxing time away from the grind and then traveled home to Illinois to celebrate her mom's birthday.  Hope you are all enjoying these beautiful summer days.

Also we wish Denise A, a happy anniversary, celebrating 14 years working with Dr Erickson.
