,

February at Palos Verdes Medical Group has been a whirlwind of fun! We celebrated three staff members’ birthdays: Dr. Gorlick’s (Feb. 4th), Dr. Lowen’s (Feb. 9th) and Michelle’s, our office manager (Feb. 25th)! We said a temporary goodbye to our accounting associate Jessica, who went on maternity leave, and welcomed two new nurses to our PVMG team, Tania and Joann. Our newborn baby care class was filled to capacity and we hosted for the first time a lecture and discussion on older adults maintaining their independence. The office was filled with love as we welcomed Valentine’s Day and advocated patients to maintain a healthy heart in honor of American Heart Health Month. We ended February by being the headline sponsor for the South Bay Spring Festival. What an amazing Chinese New Year celebration that was and we were so happy to be a part of it!

Thank you to everyone who celebrated, advocated, and participated in our many endeavors this past month! Please take a few minutes to read all about what is going on in our office this spring, including upcoming events and promotions and deals!

A Few Announcements & Reminders:

Goodbye Flu Season, Hello Spring!

The start of spring means flu season is finally coming to an end and allergy season is just beginning. Allergy season brings sneezing and wheezing to millions around the country and here in the South Bay. Coping with itchy eyes and runny noses is made worse when people rely on myths, rather than facts for treating allergy symptoms.

As an allergist, Dr. Sher likes to dispel the myths and help people learn the truth about the various remedies that successfully relieve symptoms. Our new blog entry, which you can click here to read, discusses some common myths and the facts about treating allergies that we hope you will share with your family and friends.

If you have questions or would like more information about how the spring allergy season is shaping up in our community, please give us a call and we would be happy to talk with you. Here’s to a healthy spring!

Upcoming Events & Holidays:

National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month – Every day in March

Colon cancer is one of the most easily detectable forms of cancer and one of the most treatable when caught early. Yet, it is still the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. In light of March being National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we want to make sure you’re aware of your risk for this disease and that you are planning on getting screened. Guidelines state that everyone should have their colons checked starting at age 50, but you may need to get checked even earlier if you are at higher risk, including:

  • Jews of Eastern European decent and ethnic groups including African Americans, Native Americans and Alaskan Natives
  • Those with a personal or family history of colon cancer, polyps or inflammatory bowel disease
  • Those with a personal or family history of other types of cancer
  • People who have a poor diet and exercise habits, type 2 diabetes or smoke or drink heavily

To learn more about colon cancer, visit the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) online or call their toll-free Helpline at (877) 422-2030. You can join the fight against colon cancer by going blue for the CCA’s 5th National Dress in Blue Day.

To show our doctors how much we appreciate them, we will be celebrating National Doctor Day in the office on Friday, March 29th! We have a special surprise in the works for our physicians that we need your help with! Ask us how next time you are in the office!
